Whoo-Hooo! Mission Accomplished in the War on Terror!!!

Pakistan has arrested a senior Al Queda terrorist suspected of planning two failed assasination attempts against Pakistani president, General Pervez Musharraf. Abu Faraj al-Libbi, who is thought to be the third-ranking Al Queda figure after Osama Bin Laden and Ayman Al-Zawahiri, was arrested Saturday in the town of Mardan after U.S. intelligence tipped off Pakistani authorities of his whereabouts.

Wow! The number three Al Queda man after Bin laden and Al-Zawahiri! Is this kind of like a "mission accomplished" moment? The preznit surely thinks so:

"Today's report of the capture of a top Al Qaeda operative, Abu Farraj al-Libbi, represents a critical victory in the war on terror," Bush said today. "Now Al Libbi is a top general for bin Laden. He was a major facilitator and a chief planner for the al Qaeda network. His arrest removes a dangerous enemy who was a direct threat to America and to those who love freedom."

It's a critical victory in the war on terror! I feel safer already! This is just like when they got Saddam and the insurgency in Iraq stopped! Or when they arrested Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in 2002 and all the terrorist attacks the world over ceased immediately!

Oh, wait. The insurgency in Iraq is worse than ever. Hundreds of people have died in Iraq since last Thursday, including 70 Iraqis killed in two separate car bombings today, and 15 American soldiers have been killed since May 1st, according to the Washington Post. And figures compiled by the State Department show that terrorist incidents more than tripled across the globe last year, growing to 655 "significant" attacks from 175 in 2003. The growth in global terrorism during Bush's War on Terror is so bad that the State Department refused to make public its annual report on terrorism. This comes after the State Department was found to have significantly undercounted terrorist incidents the year before.

Yes, Al-Libbi's arrest is just one more "mission accomplished" in the War on Terror. God bless the preznit. And General Musarraf. We all can sleep a little sounder tonight.
