I've been having problems with my computer for about a month now. The Windows Security Update was causing the entire system to crash. I went to have my system wiped, Windows reinstalled, and the problem still exists. The obvious answer is...Windows sucks.
Anyway, will be offline for awhile until I get this problem completely fixed. The problem is not the hardware. That's been checked and it comes out OK. The problem is the software, either with the Windows install itself or with the Update. Even the Microsoft tech guys are completely baffled by the issue. I got an email form one today and he basically said "I dunno what the problem is..."
Perhaps I will do another full destructive recovery of the hard drive and put Linux on the system. Maybe staying as far away from Microsoft products as I can will solve the problem.
Next time I buy an Apple. I am done with PCs. I am done with Microsoft. That step toward a Microsoft boycott will almost certainly solve the problem.

Arch, are you running a Mac? If so, which model? Do you have any suggestions about purchasing an Apple? I'll tell you, I am completely disgusted with Windows/Microsoft and am not going to spend another dime on a Microsoft product.

The only conservative that I know of who uses a Mac is Rush Limbaugh. He constantly boasts of their superiority over the PC platform. Having worked with computers the bulk of my adult life however, I must confess that I believe the Mac to be a better system. Unfortunately my familiarity with them is not such as to be able to competently advise you as to which one to buy. Best of luck and let me know what you end up with. Maybe I too will make the leap.

arch, I went over to the Apple store today and I was quite impressed with the service. I liked the MacBook Pros - you can get one with a 17 inch screen, 2.16 GHz processor, an ATI Radeon X1600 video card with 256 MB of memory, and a 120 GB hard drive. I probably will upgrade the RAM from 1GB to 2GB since it seems like a lot of program are starting to eat up more RAM these days, even on the Mac side. It's just a
$200 dollar difference for the extra RAM anyway, so why not? But best of all, you get three years full on-site service. If you have a problem with the computer, you can bring it in and they'll take care of it. The store is open 24/7 - 365 days a year, so that kind of on-site tech support really appeals to me.
I think I'm going to use the current PC I have through the end of the year, than purchase an a MacBook Pro. I can save space by getting rid of my PC and computer desk too, which is another plus considering I live in a Manhattan apartment with Manhattan space. But I really can't wait to get something that's less a pain in the ass than the Windows system.
I didn't realize Rush was a Mac fan. I know Imus is one. He raves about Apple and he's a pretty persnickety customer, if you know what I mean. What does Rush have to say about Apple? I'd be interested to know why he uses one.
