Roll Call: Abramoff Team Had 485 Contacts With White House

Hundreds of contacts between top White House officials and former lobbyist Jack Abramoff and his associates “raise serious questions about the legality and actions” of those officials, according to a draft bipartisan report prepared by the House Government Reform Committee.

The 95-page report, which White House officials reviewed Wednesday evening but has yet to be formally approved by the panel, singled out two of President Bush’s top lieutenants, Karl Rove and Ken Mehlman, as having been offered expensive meals and exclusive tickets to premier sporting events and concerts by Abramoff and his associates.

In total, the committee was able to document 485 contacts between White House officials and Abramoff and his lobbying team at the firm Greenberg Traurig from January 2001 to March 2004, with 82 of those contacts occurring in Rove¹s office, including 10 with Rove personally. The panel also said that Abramoff billed his clients nearly $25,000 for meals and drinks with White House officials during that period.

Rove, Mehlman, and other White House officials have denied having any close relationship with Abramoff, despite the fact that Abramoff was a “Pioneer” who raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for Bush’s White House campaigns.

“The documents depict a much closer relationship between Mr. Abramoff and White House officials than the White House has previously acknowledged,” committee staff wrote in a three-page summary that accompanied the report. Reps. Tom Davis (R-Va.) and Henry Waxman (D-Calif.), chairman and ranking member of Government Reform, this summer subpoenaed e-mails and billing records from Greenberg Traurig and other firms, including Alexander Strategy Group, which was run by one-time aides to former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas). They examined more than 14,000 pages of documents from Greenberg Traurig, including 6,600 pages of billing records and 7,700 pages of e-mail.

It's as if Jack Abramoff actually worked at the Bush White House.

Somebody ought to ask RNC Chairman and confirmed bachelor Ken mehlman about these allegatios the next time he shows up on a Sunday talk show to spew lies and bullshit.

And I know Rove doesn't talk to the press unless he's quoted anonymously, but perhaps Tony Snowjob can be asked about this report?

Project Safe Cruise will consist of a one week cruise in 2006 that will showcase the type of security and safety system that could be put in place by cruise lines to insure the safety and security of all passengers and crew and at the same time preserve evidence of crimes and/or accidents. On this Maiden Voyage we hope to offer short entertaining seminars and panel discussions by various security experts and perhaps some celebrities, on missing persons, identity theft, date rape, kidnapping, teenage and young child safety, security, safety, and health issues while in other countries or at sea, investment scams for seniors, how to buy art work, etc. We must focus on a positive solution that will benefit all parties involved and prevent future tragedies. This will be a win/win proposition giving all American passengers peace of mind and at the same time reducing crime and saving lives. If you are interested in learning more and perhaps joining the cruise or if you represent the press or would like to sponsor or help plan the cruise please leave contact information in the comment section or send an email to Become a charter member and be a part of history.

List of 62 Cases of Persons Overboard on Cruise Ships since 2000 Now Posted at

Now posted at Project Safe Cruise could be a win-win solution for parties on both sides of the cruise ship safety issue. Look at it as an outside the box idea that is sort of like pre-event arbitration, a partnership if you will. Even though focusing on prevention is less glamorous and less dramatic than solving crimes, it is more efficient and gratifying, especially if we save one life or reduce the suffering of one family. We must work with the cruise lines to set up a cadre of independent contract employees that would act as security ombudsman who would –

 Know how to deal with a terrorist situation.
 Have the authority to lock down crime scenes and secure the chain of evidence.
 Deal immediately and directly with the FBI, Coast Guard, and other agencies and organizations in all ports of call.
 Provide ongoing security and safety training to crew and travel agents and organizers including shore excursion groups.
 Record and maintain a database of incidents and present some analysis of current procedures and conduct of parties involved and recommend improvements for all.
The cadre could be staffed by ex-military and ex-law-enforcement personnel who would get salary and/or some free cruise or vacation packages for their work, kind of like how many campgrounds have frequent campers act as hosts. What works good on land should work good on the water including a Neighborhood Watch or Guardian Angel type system that could include frequent customers, crew members, contract employees, travel agents, etc. Design an Amber Alert system for use on ships. The use of this and an independent cadre perhaps named Sea Marshals would provide the most important factor or element for preventing and solving crimes: TIME. We will contact Congressman Shays or his subcommittee for possible grants to solve the problem by thinking outside of the box?
If you can find my comment under the spam,

Question: Does that mean we won't be seeing Mehlman on Meet the Press before the election for some last minute smearing of the Democrats?

Oh, I'm heartbroken. Pesonally, I'd rather see him go down than Rove. But that is just me.
praguetwin, I'm with you on that. Mehlman really gets under my skin. Perhaps it's the fact that as a gay man he has no problem using gay marriage/gay rights as a wedge issue. perhaps it's the overall sliminess factor. But either way, I'm hoping these ties to Abramoff limit Mehlman's television appearances.

BTW, the old DNC chair Terry Mcauliffe, also gets under my skin. He's another sleazeball and every time I see the guy on TV I have to shut him off.

That goes for nearly all the political consultants on both the right AND the left. I think the world would be a better place if the Begalas and the Carvilles and the Rollinses and the Shrums and the Rogers all went away to a tiny island in the Pacific where they could spend the rest of their days trying to spin each other.
