White House Goes To The Mattresses

That's how Chris Matthews led off tonight's broadcast of Hardball.

Seems about right to me.

Bush will only allow Karl Rove and Harriet Miers to be "interviewed" by Congress about the prosecutor purge. They cannot be placed under oath, the "interviews" must be held in secret and there can be no transcript.

They're hunkering down at the White House and claiming executive privilege to keep Rove and Miers from having to testify under oath.

Or, as Matthews said, they're going to the mattresses.

POSTSCRIPT: At least the Senate voted to end Preznut Bush's ability to replace U.S. attorneys without Senate confirmation through a provision of the Patriot Act. The final vote was 94-2.
